General Relief
General relief is also known as California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) a cash aid program for low income families to meet their basic needs. It also provides education, employment, and training programs to help families get jobs and move towards self-sufficiency. The program provides up to 48 months of cash grants and welfare-to-work services to low-income families with children.

WHAT IS General Relief?
Cash aid and services are available to eligible families that have a child(ren) in the home
There is no one size fits all, the amount of a family's monthly assistance payment depends on the number of people who are eligible in a household and any special needs of any of those family members. The income of the family is considered in calculating the amount of cash aid the family receives
Families that apply and qualify for ongoing assistance receive money each month to help pay for housing, food and other necessary expenses
Families that have a child(ren) in the home and both parents, but the principal earner is unemployed.
